Swivel Chair Physiotherapy

Majid Ali, M.D.

Swivel Chair Physiotherapy (Swivel PT) , in my experience, is the most effective, safe, and inexpensive physiotherapy for all chronic muscle-bone pain syndromes, especially those involving the upper and lower back regions, back, hips, knees, and ankles. It is also very valuable for patients with chronic stomach and bowel disorders, as well as those with problems of lymphatic drainage.

Swivel PT is a discovery of my wife, Talat. I have observed its benefit and am now committed to spreading the word, as public service, about this rare gift of understanding and pain relief. I urge readers to learn about, try it, validate the benefits, and offer this gift of understanding to others.

The most effective, safe, and inexpensive physiotherapy? A tall order, you say. Yes, Talatís Swivel physiotherapy ("Talatís Swivel PT") is all thatóand more. If you suffer from one of the chronic muscle-bone pain states, chronic stomach problems (such as GERD and gastritis), or chronic bowel inflammations, please begin Swivel PT gently and for five to ten minutes initially. Within days, you can watch a whole movie or extended TV programs, swiveling playfully like a ten year old. It is likely to open a wondrous path to Being Oneís Own Primary Physician. First read the following to learn what is the basis of my statements:

* I trained as an orthopedic surgeon and in 1968 received the diploma of the Fellow of Royal College of Surgeon of England (the British equivalent of the American board certification);

* For the last 25 years I have sharply focused on the molecular biology of pain, which led me to my Oxygen Model of Pain.

* For the last 25 years, as a migraine sufferer, I have diligently explored non-drug remedies for the prevention and control of pain syndromes, especially those associated with trigger points.

* I have a MRI-proven prolapsed lumbar disc which put me in bed for some days about fifteen years ago. So, I know a few things about pain and along the way, I have tested as many therapies as I could.

* Finally, I have not had a reason to pervert information to promote any ideology.

What Is Swivel Chair PT?

It is physiotherapy that you:

* Do in the comfort of your own chair;

* Do playfully and gentlyówithout setting any struggle and without setting any goals;

* Do as a nine-year-old child would, and for as long as you can without setting a goal;

* Do without a medical mindsetónot as a medical procedure; and

* Do without analyzing whether you do it right or notójust as you played with a swivel chair or beach balls as a child.

What Are Clinical Benefits of Swivel Chair PT?

* Open arteries for more oxygen;

* Loose muscles so cells can breathe;

* Gently-stretched ligaments and tendons;

* A heart beating to its own rhythm;

* An uncluttered head; and

* A free body so you can be the authentic child once you were;

What Equipment Is Needed for Swivel Chair PT?

* A swivel chair with a firm back;

* A beach ball;

* Few cushions;

* A foot rest; and

* You, just you.

Is there something else I Should know About Swivel Chair PT?

Yes.

* Be kind to your body so your body can be kind to you (so, be gentle with yourself);

* Be playfulóyou will love it;

* Gently swivel side to side and front and back;

* Raise and lower your feet by pulling in the foot rest, or by pushing it away a little;

* Use cushion for more levels and positions of your feet;

* Use the beach ball as the foot rest, with one or both feet resting on it. (Wouldnít that remind you how your feet felt things at age nine?)

* Do you think you can do a few dance steps with beach balls when in the swivel chair? (I donít know. Maybe you can. Why donít you imagine it and try it? Whay do you have to lose, really!)

A Historical Note

Wikipedia tells us that Hippocrates and later Galenus were the first practitioners of physical therapy. Oh, really? The practices of massage, manual therapies, manipulations, and hydrotherapy to treat diverse ailments were common in ancient India and China long before that. In an earlier article, I put forth the Eastern Track hypothesis by explaining how the earlier African observations about the human conditions (revealed in Edwin Smith papyrus), belief that diseases come from what we feed upon, and therapeutics influenced the evolution of the same in India and China.

In modern times, physical therapy can be dated back to Per Henrik Ling, "Father of Swedish Gymnastics," who in 1813 founded the Royal Central Institute of Gymnastics for teaching massage, manipulation, and exercise. In 1887, PTs were given official registration by Swedenís National Board of Health and Welfare. In 1894, four British nurses formed the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. In 1913, the School of Physiotherapy was established at the University of Otago in New Zealand. In 1914, in the United States, Reed College in Portland, Oregon graduated its first class of what it designated as reconstruction aides.
