Should You Say No

To Non-emergency Coronary Stent?

Majid Ali, M.D.

(Please also view my You Tube program on this subject. Enter "Majid Ali, M.D." on www.Youtube.com for the complete list)

This question can only be answered by the individual facing the decision to have or not to have a coronary artery stent. To assist such an individual in making an informed decision, I raise and then answer the following questions:

* Do coronary stents address the factors that cause heart disease?
* Do stents improve the heart health five or more years after they are inserted?
* Is the individual facing the decision willing and able to undertake an effective and integrative program for heart health?
* Do effective and integrative programs for heart health exist? If so, what is the evidence for their efficacy?
* Does one coronary stent save an individual from more coronary stents?
* What is the probability of irreversible heart damage occurring if a non-stent program is tried first?
* Is the individual facing the decision willing and able to take responsibility of her or his health?
* Are the endo cells the guardian angels of the heart? If so, do coronary stents heal injured endo cells or do they further traumatize them?

I begin with the last question first.

Endo cells: The Guardian Angels of the Heart

Endo is my abbreviation for endothelium, a very delicate single-cell layer lining the inside of blood vessels. The intelligent evolutionary design of vascular architecture made the endo cells smooth surfaced and electro-negatively charged so that the blood flowing through the vessels does not stick to them. They are delicate and so get traumatized readily. However, the evolutionary design conferred upon them a most remarkable ability to self-heal—the process beginning as soon as injury occurs and sometimes completed within several minutes as the healthy endo cells in the vicinity of the injured endo cells divide and slide over to plug the hole. I discuss this crucial subject in:

* A YouTube video seminar entitled “Please, Know Your Endos”
* A five-article series entitled “The Paradox of More Plaques and Fewer Deaths” and posted on www.wiki-medical.org.
* My book “Integrative Cardiology,” the sixth volume of my 12-volume textbook entitled “The Principles and Practice of Integrative Medicine.”

My crucial point here is: No one can make an intelligent decision about whether or not to say no to non-emergency coronary artery stent.

Do Coronary Stents Address the Factors That Cause Heart Disease?

The simple answer: No.

Do Stents Improve the Heart Health Five or More Years after They Are Inserted?

Absolutely not. How can they? They do not correct any of the problems that caused heart disease to begin with.

Is the Individual Facing the Decision Willing and Able to Undertake an Effective and Integrative Program for Heart Health?

The real answer to the question can only come from the individual. Most motivated people can do so if they are properly guided by knowledgeable and supportive doctors who know how to detect factors that injure the endo cells so they can heal. On the part of the patient, it takes a courageous journey of learning, understanding, knowing, enlightenment, and liberating one’s own self.

Do Effective and Integrative Programs for Heart Health Exist? If So, What Is the Evidence for Their Efficacy?

For the general reader, I suggest a course on reversing heart disease on Youtube. For professional readers, I suggest my book “Integrative Cardiology,” the sixth volume of my 12-volume textbook entitled “The Principles and Practice of Integrative Medicine.”

Does One Coronary Stent Save an Individual from More Coronary Stents?

Most people know individuals who needed more stents after the first, often within a year or two? Since stents do not address the causes of coronary heart disease, they cannot prevent the need for more stents.

What Is the Probability of Irreversible Heart Damage Occurring If a Non-stent Program Is Tried First?

What people with chest pain due to poor circulation to the heart need most is oxygen. The simplest and most effective ways of getting more oxygen are: (1) Limbic Breathing; (2) Infla-oil rubs over chest and abdomen; (3) Spiritual work and meditation; (4) heart-friendly nutrients; and (5) avoidance of tobacco, sugar, caffeine, and trans fats (in deep fried foods, for intstance).

I have discussed Limbic Breathing in great detail in my books, articles, and video seminars. I suggest the following:

* Limbic Breathing seminar on Youtube
* A 100-minute DVD entitled “Limbic Breathing” available on-line at www.majidali.com
* My book entitled “The Cortical Monkey and Healing.”
* A scientific paper entitled “Autonomic Breathing Test” posted on www.wiki-medical.com.

Is the Individual Facing the Decision Willing and Able to Take Responsibility of Her or His Health?

One person can answer this question for one’s own self. There is no certainty in life.

One can be secure only in the knowledge that there is no complete security.

Do Stents Prevent Strokes?

Stents in brain arteries have also been used to prevent strokes. From the above discussion, one would not expect them to work either. And they do not. Consider the following quote from an article published by The New York Times on September 7, 2011:

“A promising but expensive device to prop open blocked arteries in the brain in the hope of preventing disabling or fatal strokes failed in a rigorous study, researchers reported on Wednesday. Those who got the device actually had so many more strokes than those assigned to control risk factors, like blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes, that the study was abruptly terminated.

A promising device? Promising for whom? For the device makers? For the hired guns of manufacturers who pimp their devices? (I take that back. Physical abuse of pimps usually does not cause strokes). For the hospitals that profit from such devices? Or for the doctors who would rather do what their professors on payroll of device makers want them to do? Or for those who have no interest in the evolution’s intelligent design for the endo cells and heart health?
