Oxygen Stories

Majid Ali, M.D.

In this series, I offer six simple stories to explain various oxygen functions and related aspects of human physiology.

For four decades, I have been occupied with investigating the boundary between health and the state of absence of health. For patient education, I use simple analogies to explain the onset of disease. Among my favorite analogies are those of sour milk, sticky cherries, rancid butter, greasy cooking pot, oxygen detergent, and a pothole in the road. Each analogy explains an important mechanism of cell injury and together they present a complete picture that is informative, revealing, and highly significant in clinical medicine.
