Corporate Child Abuse

Through Doctors' Neglect of Insulin Toxicity

Majid Ali, M.D.

Ethan is one of our five grandsons. One day, I saw one of his books entitled "The Cheerios Play Book." The book’s cover carried the following in bold letters: Fill in the Missing Cheerios. Ethan was two years old then and the book was bought to help him learn how to count. General Mills,Inc., the Cheerios maker, was leading the charge for educating American toddlers.

On Monday and Tuesdays, I do radio programs entitled "Science, Health, and Healing" on WBAI, New York (heard on-line at www.wbai.org. I sensed the book might be a good starting program on insulin toxicity among children. So, I asked his mother if I could borrow the book. Kaden, Ethan’s older brother, broke into a loud laugh. Oliver followed his older brother and then everyone else in the family. The house was filled with laughter. A good deed done! I congratulated myself.

Cheerios Is Pure Starch and Sugar

Cheerios is made up of starches and sugar. Starches are good foods only when mixed in small amounts to proteins and healthy fats. In excess, starches are fattening. Milk poured on Cheerios adds yet more milk sugar. Parents often pieces of banana to milk and cereals. That adds yet more sugar. So begins the childhood obesity. A recent large study of four-year-old children in hion showed that one in five were obeses, not merely overweight. Over 30 percent of American Indian children were obese. So the problem of obesity in children is a serious national problem.

Later I turned the book over to look at the back cover and found an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing Division. The nation's premium publishers of educational book chooses a cereal brand to educate toddlers. So, two giants of the American corporate world had united to write a prescription for a high-sugar-high-starch cereal—and for insulin toxicity, obesity, and diabetes. Did these corporations not recognize that they were not contributing to the pandemic of insulin toxicity and diabetes among children—an unrecognized form of child abuse in American homes. Cheerios is nearly all sugar in the body. The milk taken with it adds yet more sugar.

Sugar-Insulin-Adrenaline-Neurotransmitter Roller Coasters

When children are distracted or disruptive in their classrooms, do their teachers realize the child abuse their parents inadvertently engaged in? Do the teachers or parents recognize the conspiracy against the children perpetrated by the two giants of corporate America? How often does anyone other than the marketing geniuses at General Foods and Simon & Schuster suspect the crime against toddlers? Cheerios are shamelessly promoted as good nutrition. How often does anyone see that it contributes to the pandemics of insulin toxicity, obesity, and childhood diabetes?

Insulin Toxicity Is the Scourge of Our Time

The primary cause of childhood obesity is insulin toxicity. When not controlled, it leads to Type II diabetes and its many complications. In health, the pancreas gland releases just enough insulin to regulate glucose metabolism (sugar and starches) after meals. It releases insulin in excess when the functions of the hormone are blocked by buildup of grease in cell membranes. Excess insulin is inflaming and fattening. The more sugar in the diet, the more grease buildup on and inside the cells. The more the grease, the higher the insulin level. The more the insulin activity in children, the greater the degree of insulin toxicity—and hence higher incidences of childhood obesity, immune disorders, and diabetes.

What is cellular grease? Every living cell breathes oxygen and produces waste and cellular debris. In this process, fats turn rancid, sugars become sticky, and proteins are pulped. The chains of amino acids that make up proteins are cut, turned, and twisted, so to speak. In health, these substances are rapidly cleared so that cells can breathe oxygen, expel waste and toxins, and stay healthy and happy. In disease states, rancid fats, sticky sugars, and pulped proteins accumulate on cell membranes. Sometime ago, I introduced the term cellular grease for the layer of such materials that builds on cell membranes in all diseases.

Oxygen, the Cellular Detergent

Nature also created a system of grease-cutters—detergents, in common language—that remove cellular grease and allow cells to breathe again. The primary detergent in the human body is oxygen. Secondary detergents are hydrogen peroxide, superoxide, singlet oxygen, nitric oxide, and others. The third layer of detergent is provided by enzymes. The Grease-Detergent Model of Disease explains the beginning of all acquired disease with either excess of grease or deficit of detergents.

A healthy fat cell has natural, unrancid, "living fat." A dead fat cell has rancid and "dead fat." An injured fat cell has a mixture of living and dead fat. Cellulite is masses of dead fat cells. In fatty change of the liver—a condition caused by toxins—a large number of liver cells become loaded with dead fat, cannot breathe, and eventually die.

The body has a limited capacity to rid itself of dead fat cells. The problem of overweight and obese people is that their fat cells die at a faster rate than the body can clear them. This is the core of The Grease and Detergent Model of Obesity, which has strong explanatory power for the true nature of obesity, as well as for effective clinical approaches for reversal.

Insulin in Excess Is Fattening

Insulin is an integral part of the obesity story. Excess insulin is inflaming, fattening, pro-hypertension, pro-heart attacks, and pro-strokes. Recently, I reviewed insulin profiles of 125 patients and published the data in Townsend Letter. I defined my view of the evolutionary insulin design and described clinical profiles of insulin toxicity (free download of these articles available at this web site). Briefly, insulin works through its receptor embedded in the cell membrane. When grease builds on the membranes and oxygen detergents cannot remove it expediently, the insulin receptors become impacted and dysfunctional. This leads to overproduction of insulin in the pancreas in order to lower the raised blood glucose levels. This is the essential link between high-sugar-high-starch cereals, child abuse, insulin toxicity, obesity, and diabetes.

Here are some other words on the back cover of The Cheerios Play Book:

* Tasty, interactive fun that toddlers will love,

* Teddies need Cheerios buttons,

* Mice need Cheerios glasses, and

* Fish need Cherrios bubbles.
